Boost your Creativity with 6 Easy, Daily Habits

Creativity is elusive, and its source, impossible to pinpoint. But here are a few habits I have focused on incorporating into my routine. I’ve since seen an uptick in my creative consistency. So if you’re looking to strengthen your creative awareness, try them out, and let me know what you think!

  1. Do something active. Start your day with some movement. Earlier in the semester, I wrote this blog post about how walking and hiking boosts creativity. It’ll probably make you happier too!

  2. Set a goal to try something new every day, every week, or every month. If you get stuck doing the same thing day after day, you’re likely to remain doing the same thing in your creative career. I recently set a goal to try something new every week. For example, last week, I tried cooking a new recipe. This week, I started a new book. Next week, I’m going skydiving. It really doesn’t matter what it is as long as you are making a habit to break up your routine.

  3. Journal daily. Spend 10 minutes a day writing down your thoughts. Things that inspired you. Your dream from last night. Don’t think too much and just get down your thoughts. The act of journaling will exercise that creative muscle and keep it strong.

  4. Don’t stay in one place for too long. The advantage of WFH is that you can move your position at any time. Instead of sitting in front of your computer, try working while standing or lying down. Move to a different room in your house, or go outside, if you can.

  5. Eat well. It’s hard to feel creative when you are low on energy or not feeling your best. Eat well to boost your energy levels and cognitive abilities.

  6. Take a minute to relax. Switch off your phone for a few minutes, and meditate or listen to some music to calm yourself down. You will be surprised at how much more effectively you work.
